Welcome to AUBC! We are one of AU's oldest and most vibrant clubs, established in 1865. Since 2012, we have combined with the RGU Boat Club to form University Rowing Aberdeen (URA), which is the right place for you whether you are an experienced rower or just want to give rowing a try.
Beginner Squads:
If you are new to rowing, we run a Learn to Row programme every year. This includes a mixture of land sessions including rowing machine sessions, circuits and more, as well as getting you out in boats on the water! You will be introduced to the sport slowly and this course will allow you to develop basic rowing skills while meeting lots of new people!
Our Beginner programme is also for people new to rowing, but it aims to get you ready to race throughout the year at competitions in Aberdeen and across Scotland. There are more training sessions per week than in the Learn to Row programme. This is perfect for anyone with a competitive spirit who wants to learn a new sport and develop a team bond along the way.
Competitive Squads:
Senior Squad: this squad is open to anyone who has rowed before and is aiming to compete at national and international level. The squad competes at various events throughout the year including BUCS, HoRR/WeHoRR, SSS events, Scottish Championships, Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
Intermediate Squad: Those who have previously been members of our Beginner Squads can choose to join this squad, which prepares you to move into the Senior Squad within one year. You will train with the seniors and attend the same races, meaning you can really immerse yourself in the sport and quickly improve.
Recreational Squad:
The Recreational Squad is open to experienced rowers as well as novices who wish to pursue rowing as a recreational activity. There will be fewer training sessions - the main aim of this squad is to have fun rowing and training together!
Besides training and races, we also offer lots of fun social events. The highlight of the year is the Aberdeen Boat Race in March, a popular Aberdeen event where we race against RGU and end the night with the infamous Boat Race Ball. Besides this, there are plenty of socials throughout the year allowing you to meet new people and enjoy a great night out!
