1. Find a society, sports club or a student group you would like to join
Browse and explore the list of existing societies, sports clubs, and student groups. Remember, that to join a student activity you don’t have to have any pre-existing knowledge or skills - your interest is all that matters! So, don’t worry if you’ve never tried a certain activity before. There is no better time than now to try out something new.
There are a few sports that are strictly competitive. It is best to check their AUSA website, Facebook page, or ask them during (Re)Freshers Fair.
2. Get in touch
Contact the society, sports club or a student group and go to their next session or social (contact details can be found when you're browsing! - if you can't find the correct email address, or Facebook page email societies@abdn.ac.uk or fixtures@abdn.ac.uk, and we'll let you know!)
Please note, while most societies, sports clubs, and student groups offer those wishing to join an activity, meeting, or training an opportunity to do it for free, there may be payment required to attend some sessions or social events.
3. Get involved
If you decide to join the society or a sports club, you will need to purchase a membership. Each society and sports club has its own membership, which can be purchased directly from their page or in person at AUSA reception.
Student groups do not have membership fees so, you do not need to purchase a membership in order to become a member. Check out their AUSA website to find out how you can get in touch to get involved.
You can join as many societies, sports clubs, and student groups as you like.
Please note, in addition to the society or the sports club membership you are required to purchase Societies Union Membership or the Sports Union Membership. You will only have to pay this once a year. See more information here.
4. Attend the meeting or the training & have fun!
Once you have signed up and paid your memberships, check where the next event is taking place and have an amazing time!
If you signed up to a sports club that trains or plays at Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV), please follow this link to the ASV website which will enable you to activate your Student ID (new UoA Student Member). This will allow you to gain access to the facility just before your scheduled activity by checking in at an ASV kiosk or with ASV reception staff.
If you need assistance with this, please go to the ASV reception or AUSA Sports Office for help. You will then need to take your student card to ASV Reception, along with proof of purchase of your ASV membership. This is usually emailed to you, or you can log in to your AUSA student account to view it. If you have not linked your membership to your student card, you will be unable to access ASV Facilities. To utilise ASV facilities out with your training/fixture times, you must have an ASV Student Lifestyle or Lifestyle membership. There are student prices and available here.
