Zombie Survival

Union Brew

Monday 30 October 2023 at 6pm - 10pm

Ever wondered how it feels to be chased by zombies? Want to experience a zombie apocalypse? Get ready for this Halloween’s ZOMBIE SURVIVAL!

On Monday the 30th of October, Old Aberdeen will be invaded by zombies. Your goal: TO SURVIVE. Choose your strategy, whether that’s camouflage, hiding, running… make sure to survive the 2h of the apocalypse without being caught by any zombies. And if you’re caught by any… who said the dead could not revive? Join the zombie side and keep playing!

And to make things more challenging… there’ll be tasks to complete, goals to achieve and prizes to win.

Are you ready?

Book your ticket >>

Meet at Union Brew at 6pm to get started and make sure to return by 9pm, otherwise we’ll assume you’ve not survived. The survival will last 2h, but the event will finish at 10pm.

Tickets are £5 for both students & non-students and these include the zombie apocalypse experience, make-up, and hot drinks to keep yourself warm during the event!

Game Rules

Equipment:

Whether you’re a runner or a zombie, you’ll wear an arm band which we will provide. The colours are as follows:

  • Yellow for runners.
  • Green for zombies.

Hiding or removing the arm band so that zombies do not attack you is grounds for expulsion. So don’t be sneaky and be fair to the zombies!

You’ll also be given a map of the playing field, a leaflet with the challenges to complete, and a printed copy of the rules.

Goal:

Runners – As a runner, your goal is to survive the 2h without being caught by the zombies. But you can also complete the challenges (or not) to win extra prizes!

Zombies – As a zombie, your goal is to get as many runners as you can! And if you manage to catch the special runner… there’ll be an extra prize for you!

Elimination:

The slightest contact with a zombie eliminates runners from the game (as a survivor). But don’t worry, you can continue playing by joining the zombie side. Just go to our makeup zone at Union Brew and get ready to keep playing. Or you can opt to leave the game by simply going back to Union Brew and telling a staff member that you’ve been “killed” and you want to stay out of the game.

Being a zombie:

The reality is that most runners will end up becoming zombies sooner or later. Your most difficult challenge in the event, however, is to live up when the time comes to die!

When you are a zombie, you will join a horde in search of food: the rest of the survivors. Being a zombie is extremely fun: get into the role of a living dead and eliminate runners. Wandering around a town at night crawling and moaning is priceless!

Don’t scare non-participants though! You wouldn’t want to be responsible for someone’s heart attack!

How is someone expelled from the event?

By hiding or removing the identifying arm band.

All contact by the survivor to zombies is prohibited. You cannot defend yourself, sorry!

NO VIOLENCE ALLOWED. Believe it or not, zombies are chill creatures, touching the runners is enough to “kill them”.

By using any transport that is not on foot. We want to be fair to others but also play in a safe way. We wouldn’t want to have any traffic accidents, and neither do you!

By going beyond the playing field boundaries.

Surviving:

Although hiding to survive is tempting, we encourage the runners to participate in the challenge and complete as many of the tasks as possible for a full fun experience. Otherwise, you’ll get bored and cold just waiting for the game to end (not worth it, trust us).

Other players might spread rumours, it is up to you to decide whether to believe them or not. But consider the only real information the info provided by our staff.

Moving around:

You cannot use any means of transport other than your feet/wheelchair. Make sure to wear a pair of good shoes, as you’ll be moving around a fair bit. The use of vehicles will be sanctioned with the expulsion of the player.

Breaks/safe zone:

If at any point you need to use the toilet or get a hot drink to warm up, you can come to the Students’ Union Building. But don’t take longer than needed, otherwise you’ll miss out the fun.

Assistance:

There will be staff members in the Students’ Union Building which will be assisting with the make up and instructions or any other matters that arise. But also, there will be other staff wearing high vis vests scattered through the playing field in case you need assistance. They will also be making sure that no one is breaking the rules.

Safety first:

Even if you’re really into your character, remember that safety comes first! So please be careful when crossing the road and only do so at the crossings. Watch out for traffic and cyclists. Respect the rest of the citizens.

Forbidden:

It is forbidden to drink alcohol and consume any type of narcotic substances before and during the event. Any person in this state will be expelled from the event immediately.

You CANNOT enter any buildings other than the Students’ Union building (only for assistance, toilet or a hot drink).
