Introduction
I am in my last year studying Marine Biology and in my four years at Aberdeen Uni I’ve been fortunate to have many opportunities to engage in different activities provided by the vast number of clubs and societies that are providing amazing sports, events, training and volunteering opportunities. I am dedicated to making sure that everyone will have fair opportunities to engage with a wide range of different societies and clubs that can contribute towards the well-being of an individual, and are an integral part of the student experience.
What are your three priorities for the year?
As the VP for activities, my three main priorities would be:
- Ensuring inclusive society and club activities for all students and breaking down barriers for participation by promoting zero tolerance for discrimination and by encouraging societies and clubs to have a range of activities that are accessible to students with disabilities, and are more affordable to attend.
- Supporting the development and enhancement of skills through different society and club activities by increasing volunteering and skill-based training opportunities and by doing so generating more employability attributes.
- Aiding societies and clubs to carry out their activities by ensuring fair allocation of resources and facilities, working towards more sustainable and affordable transportation methods, and helping develop a tool and equipment library.
I am committed to work towards a safe, social and sustainable student experience.
What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?
I am a member of multiple uni societies, including being in a committee position. It has given me insight on what difficulties societies are facing and how these difficulties could be tackled. I am a flexible and solution-oriented person with a strong drive to promote inclusive, accessible and affordable student activities and who is determined to give a voice to students and advocate for student societies and clubs.
What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?
In the aftermath of Covid19 and with the rise of conflicts, students are currently facing increasing prices and shortages of everyday necessities. This can make student life highly expensive and the accessibility of many activities unfair. In the midst of crises, it is important for the physical and mental well-being of students to be able to partake in club and society activities, and have a supportive community around them without it being unreasonably expensive.
