Together we can Create a memorable student life through recreational activities blended with academic studies.

Introduction

My name is Philip Ukwamedua, and I am from Nigeria. I am a student pursuing a master's degree in Information Technology. During my undergraduate studies I was involved in various student activities where I created a vibrant and engaging campus community that encouraged learning, creativity, and personal development. It was an interesting and rewarding opportunity that helped me build the skills required to serve the diverse interests of students. I understand the interests and needs of the student community, and I can inspire and motivate others to get involved and participate in various events and activities.

What are your three priorities for the year?

If elected as Vice President Activities, my three priorities for the year will be:

  1. Increasing Member Engagement: As VP Activities, my primary focus will be creating opportunities for students to get involved and stay engaged in various groups and organizations of their interest. This could involve planning and executing events, activities, and initiatives that accommodate the interests and needs of students. I would also explore new ways to communicate with members and gather their feedback to ensure that the activities align with their expectations.
  2. Building Stronger Relationships: Another key priority as VP Activities will be to build stronger relationships with other organizations, both within and outside the university community. This would involve collaborating on events and activities, music and sports competitions/festivals, exchanging ideas and resources, and finding ways to support each other's goals and objectives. Building stronger relationships can expand the reach and impact of the societies, while also creating new opportunities for members.
  3. Enhancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Finally, I would promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our student community. This would involve creating initiatives and programs that promote greater diversity and inclusivity, ensuring that all members feel welcome and valued, and working to address any barriers or challenges that may prevent members from fully participating in any activities.

What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?

There are several unique skills I possess which are valuable in effectively carrying out the role of vice president activities. These skills are:

Creativity: I have excellent creative ideas for events and activities which will accommodate the diverse student community in the university of Aberdeen.

Communication and Collaboration: I am an effective communicator and collaborator, able to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including team members, students, senior leaders and members of other professional and non-professional organizations.

Event Planning and Execution: I have been involved in planning and executing several events for students. which accommodates the diverse interests of the entire student body.  I also have strong organizational skills, and I pay attention to details.

What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?

With regards student activities, the biggest issue students face is finding a balance between academic work and being actively involved in societies/clubs that accommodate their diverse interest. If elected, I will create a vibrant and engaging campus community that encourages recreational activities blended with academic studies, creativity, and personal development. There will also be music concerts for various cultures, inter-university games, and talent-based scholarships for students with unique talents in sports, music and other skills.
