Introduction
My name is Andrews Owusu Appiah-Kubi, a Master of Letters in Creative Writing Student. I love football. I am obsessed with movies and I am a member of The Gaudie and The Creative Writing Society. and I am vying for Vice President Activities.
What are your three priorities for the year?
The establishment of concrete societies, which I will term “Join a Family”, will be the first on my list. People remember their mates and old mates from the societies they joined. Connections, friendships, and relationships take on from there. The “Join A Family” agenda will be a year-long program for all societies and individuals in the University. These societies must sell themselves all year long, not only on Opening Day. The goal is to see that most students are engaged in at least one society to build the portfolio.
I seek to strengthen the unprecedented University’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion values. Every year, the school is graced with international students from all around the world. It is imperative to help these students know their way around the University and its activities. We will ensure all these international students are well-informed about the social clubs, societies, and sporting clubs they wish to join. It will be an initiative to help International Students be part of these clubs.
Again, I will bridge the gap between the student body, the activities office and the University by being a communication tool. Communication is essential when it reaches the recipient. The “Agenda Know Your Club” and “Cheer Aberdeen Up” will be prudent in my office should I be elected.
What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?
I will bring outstanding knowledge of liaising with the University. I would help raise funds for the Sporting Clubs, liaising with the University Authorities to bring in scouts to watch these players get to their dream of becoming footballers, hockey players, etc. Opening nominations to everyone to join the football will mean reducing the amount paid monthly, which prevents many of these students from joining the clubs. My office will seek to provide a forum where everybody can join a working club
What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?
Coming to the United Kingdom, I had my full gear on. I was ready to be part of a community, a society that would shape my dreams, but I found it hard to find these societies to share my values and ideas neither was i communicated well. Luckily, I was not the only one in such a dilemma. The course to find myself in this position to change and continue the good works of the sabbatical officer is what I look forward to doing.
First, how and where to find a society.
Second, communicate through all media to access the students
Hold subsequent fairs apart from Opening Day for these clubs to sign in new members.
