Student’s power is Nation’s power !
Introduction
I am Vikrant (Vicky), pursuing LL.M in International Human Rights, a mechanical engineer and a political scientist as well. In total, I can relate with students from almost all backgrounds. In the last 5 years I have raised my voice against injustice starting from unconstitutional farmer bills, historic protest of Shaheen Bagh women and George Floyd’s death. Being someone’s advocate is a herculean task and so fighting for making people’s life better by holding institutions accountable is what I firmly believe in. I encourage students to vote for me because i have fought for the rights of the people as their lawyer in the courts and so it will be easier for me to resolve the discrepancies of the students. I will be personally looking into issues faced by students by visiting their departments and hostel as and when required and I would be doing this work as my ‘duty’ rather than just a job. I would not just be sitting in the office and waiting for the students to come to me. I mean it inch by inch and every student will be connected with me on whatsapp for smooth and direct communication.
What are your three priorities for the year?
- To increase the QS and THE World Ranking of the university by fixing parameters.
- To increase the percentage of Campus Placement by lobbying university to invite more companies and firms to the career fair and involve some alumni’s for the same.
- To reduce the yearly bus pass for the students by 30% once for all and reduce their monetary burden.
What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?
As a human rights lawyer, I can ‘guarantee’ that I will fix each and every issue that comes to my attention by being assertive, honest and responsibly diplomatic. My leadership will focus on motivating and inspiring my university students who will be my lifetime friends hereafter. Organising concerts and events for recreational purpose is already on my agenda. Strategically representing the university on leading global platforms to make sure that the set goals are achieved and my University outshine others. Addressing and supporting undergraduate students at each and every level on all platforms will be by first priority. I like to get things done quickly so that everyone has a say. A grievance redressal mechanism will be functional for resolving issues that girls particularly face during their study period.
What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?
As of now I have had many interactions with my batch-mates and other fellow students and they seem to have lot of pressure with respect to the assessment work, continuous exams, mental health issues, LQBTQ concerns, sexual harassment, non functional computers, closure of cafeteria’s after 5pm etc. I would be be holding a meeting on my very first day with the class reps and 2 students from each course and society to take insights so that the university can improve, build and explore job opportunities and concerns of the students. I will personally connect with the local cafes and shop managers for forming an official channel for the students through the union office so that students don’t have to roam asking for part time jobs around the city. I will also be forming a committee of 17 students for resolving mental health issues as I don’t want any student to face it at any cost, no matter what the circumstances.
